Heathrow 28/01/16

Post by TheaLove » Sat Jan 30, 2016 8:10 pm

Hi, my first post here so I thought I'd share a couple of pictures I took at Heathrow on Thursday. I've been taking aircraft photos since approx 2010 but am only just beginning to get my Flickr site up and running! Heathrow is my usual haunt when I do occasionally get time to indulge my interest.

Got really lucky with the light for this one:

And this one:

No trip would be complete without seeing the queen of the skies:

And then the weather lived up to the usual and went completely pants, just in time for this:

Hope you like them

they are very nice, excellent quality and as you said the light was kind at least for the first 3. I was at Stansted on Thursday and the cloud moved over mid afternoon and spoilt things for me somewhat so I know how you felt.

Thanks for posting them and welcome to the forum - I look forward to seeing some more soon

Great photographs and the Etihad is the pick of the bunch for me. Really like your Flickr photostream, keep adding to it.

I see from the EXIF data that you're using some pretty decent photographic equipment - I would be interested to hear how you get on with the EOS1 DX in an aviation environment.

Hi and welcome to the boards

Nice first post with some great photos

were they taken on the southern perimeter road near the Esso garage or were you a bit further out?

Hi, thank you all for the lovely warm welcome, and I'm glad you like my offerings so far :)

Have to say I love my 1DX and it does very well for me at Heathrow. Full frame isn't to everybody's taste but I think I've adapted to it well - I just tend to keep the 100-400 at the 400 end usually and hope for the best :o . Luckily for me cropping usually works quite well :D. I also use a 5D MkIII sometimes - again full frame, but I have to say it produces beautiful aircraft images.

These were taken from the Esso garage (except for the Aer Lingus one, which was taken at Myrtle Avenue), and I tend to go for either of those two places, or the small recreation ground near Cranebank when there is something I want to catch coming into 27R. I'm not brave or clever enough to have worked out where to get the banking shots from the 27s yet, and I've heard a few tales about those who attempt to use Feltham Park for the 09 banking shots (my other half would probably ban me from going if he thought I was going there alone!).

I also like to try and catch 'civvies' in all different weather conditions - have to say I personally prefer slightly different viewpoints and weather photos from 'the norm', but I promise to try not to be too 'arty' on the forum.

Thanks once again for all your kind comments, and here's probably the highlight of my session on Thursday - I just can't get enough of Hekla Aurora!

I have never really done any photography from the Esso garage I will have to give it a try

I tend to try and arrange our visits to coincide with the myrtle ave rotation so you have most of the day with landing shots that everybody has got, I like the idea of trying somthing a bit different and will have to try some different locations

Another great shot.

I've never heard any tales, and I've not seen anything untoward while there either. Being a public open space with some woodland nearby I can imagine what may go on though! During the day it can be very quiet so perhaps not ideal for a lone female, but otherwise it's a great spot.

Ah that Etihad... Gorgeous (in a really really weird way given that I'm not a massive fan of the scheme!)

Not a bad place to have as a regular haunt!

Nice collection there

I have to agree that Etihad looks really smart in your shot, but I like the Thai 380 shot, but my favorite is your Aurora shot, fanstastic!
