Heathrow 27L Departures

Post by Cessna954 » Sun Dec 06, 2015 4:46 pm

With a brief let-up in the bad weather of late and some time on my hands, I popped up to Heathrow on Friday (4th) to try and shoot some 27L departures. I went to Stanwell Moor, a location I've been to in the past, and over the course of the day only saw two other people, a jogger and a twitter. A half decent day with some cloud bubbling up occasionally and than setting in by just before 2pm. Anyway, very happy with the selection I came away with.

It's great to catch the early morning light at a civilised time. Qatar A330 making the turn over Staines.

Air India are currently using a B777-200 on the morning service

A great variety of A380s at LHR these days. Qatar....

Emirates of course...

and the home team, BA

First time I've seen the new Austrian livery, is it a low cost branding?

Great to see a Vietnam Airlines B787-9

I wasn't aware of the Finnair A340 scheduling, so a nice bonus, Obviously with a very light fuel and passenger load as it rocketed skywards.

and still a few Virgin Atlantic A340-600s operating

Saudi B777-300

Cathay Pacific B777-300

yet another B777-300, THY

I think someone spilt the pots of paint when this was last in the hangar

I know that it's an underside shot, but I quite like it.

and finishing with a BA jumbo

a cracking set, looks like a great location for 27R departures. The light picked them out really well. I think my favourite is the Singapore 380, the scheme works really well with that light.

Thanks for posting them

Excellent shots. Having seen these, next time I may just try Stanwell Moor for 27R departures rather than shooting arrivals on 27L.

Glad that you liked the pics from LHR.

Just to clarify, Stanwell Moor can be used when they're departing off the southerly runway - 27L.

Forgot to mention that this little beastie, AN-26B LZ-FLL, trundled over at 26,000ft during the afternoon. I do miss the sound of real aeroplanes.

Ah ok, an alternative to the Esso garage then.

Great shots  I used to live in Stanwell Moor as a kid and remember seeing very different planes to those! Beautiful crisp, clear shots
