An.12 UR-CAK at Stansted 17-1-2015 (plus a few others)

Post by andygolfer » Sat Jan 17, 2015 6:19 pm

I saw that this was due to arrive this afternoon so I braved the cold and spent a couple of hours there which was made more enjoyable by meeting Talldan there - nice to meet you and hope we can catch up again sometime. On with the An.12, 4 pics of it's arrival and one of it's smoky departure as it was starting to get dark, beautiful beast:

and that smoky departure as it set off for Agadir in Morocco:

hope you like them (C&C welcome) , I'll put a few more from this afternoon on here later

thanks everyone.

Nick - the 2nd one looks like an LCY approach angle! it was really nose down all the way.

The take off was in very poor light but I had to show one with all the smoke :D it's lungs must be in a hell of a state!

many thanks, 'worth getting very very cold for' would be another way of putting it! Took ages to warm up when I drove home.

I was quite pleased with the results, I had thought about going out on the approach but by it's scheduled time the sun would have gone round to virtually head on anyway and I thought photos with a bit of background would be more interesting. In the end it was early so not sunny side for me but a bit of setting adjustment helped improve the results and I got some fairly decent backgrounds although trying to get a pic without all the light poles sticking out the top of the aircraft is always a challenge at STN, you have to pick your moment to avoid the worst offenders! - having said that I got one on the 3rd pic but at least the slow shutter speed used to get the prop blur meant it was blurred, at 1/800th that would have stuck out like an extremely sore thumb.

Great shots Andy the angle of attack of the AN-12 on finals is amazing dont think the crew would see any sky through the cockpit windows just the ground!
yeah we all have to brave the cold weather at this time of year but the light makes for stunning photography , cheers DD
