Stansted 7-12-2014 (sunday afternoon)

Post by andygolfer » Sun Dec 07, 2014 9:09 pm

the weather was forecast to clear up so I went over to Stansted for a couple of hours this afternoon, drove through a heavy shower as i got near and the clear skies of Rayne transformed to heavy cloud at STN, the forecast was correct and by 3pm the sky cleared nicely, these are some of my pics:

first of all a visit to the the north (business) side, while it was cloudy. I took several but then went back in the evening light, probably a bit too late - this was the only one I didn't duplicate later

then I went to the Belmer Road area alongside the runway for this selection:

B757 M-RISE departed before the cloud cleared

and a couple of arrivals in the sunshine:

Asiana B747 HL7417, there was quite a cross wind so it was crabbing as it approached and I got this pic of it apparently heading straight towards me!

and another as it touched down (well 3 sets of main gear touched down but the cross wind was still a bit of a problem)

From today's race meeting at Stansted, the 3.15 - the Boeing stakes: neck and neck at they approach the winning post (the Ryanair won, they seem to taxi very fast compared to the others!)

then the Silkway B767 arrived and again suffered from the wind, both main gears down but somewhat lop-sided:

and a sunsetty arty moment, don't think this will ever fly but I assume it's civilian :D

then it was back to the north side the repeat my earlier efforts without the cloud, all on stands 503 - 505 near the Harrods terminal:

and the one I wanted to get a pic of (and still haven't got a 'clean' one of it , damn post), Weststar B.727 N800AK

hope you like them, C & C appreciated, thanks

Many thanks for the comment.

I wasn't sure if I preferred the head on of the 747 (no.4) or no.5. don't often get the chance of one head on like that without it being a long way off or a bit too much underside so it was a bit unusual for me. I entered 5 in POTM in the end so I suppose that was my choice as the better one (I might have a change of heart before it closes though!).

the Weststar 727 was my main reason for going yesterday and it nearly worked out, I just wish that post hadn't been in the way but there was no way I could avoid it, still far better than nothing and an improvement on the one I got last year (different aircraft but same scheme) so I suppose I should be happy with it.
