Andrewsfield 05-04-2023

Post by andygolfer » Fri Apr 14, 2023 7:43 am

I took a short drive to Andrewsfield last week to check out the footpath that runs south of the airfield to see what it is like for photography now that visitors are no longer allowed on the airfield itself. The heat haze ruined photos of anything on the ground but I did manage some approach and departure photos. Here's a few - nothing very exciting I'm afraid....

some 27 landers:

they briefly switched to 09 ops and these two departed (and returned several times as they flew circuits)

to give a feel of what the photography is like this is an uncropped image taken from the footpath at 388mm...

and here's a bing o.s. map of the airfield showing the footpath that runs west to east just south of the airfield (Newpasture Lane to Onchor Farm). I parked at the western end on the large concrete area (spot height 83 on the map) and walked to where a farm track runs north to the 27 threshold ('NO ACCESS' signs very evident so I didn't walk up that track!). the walk took me 12 minutes. From the start point and the end point I could see most of the parked aircraft but the heat haze was diabolical and reading them was difficult but not impossible. There were only about 7 parked on the eastern grass area so they have thinned out a bit since I last visited.
Photography wise the heat haze ruined any ground shots of anything close to touch down but I got some decent ones on approach at around 350 – 400 focal length (cropped sensor), here are 2 I’ve often taken photos from the verge down at the 09 threshold as well so there are still possibilities available without transgressing the new rules.

Hope that's of use
C&C welcome

indeed, the runway was very messy after all the rain, there were others equally dirty as well (I'd love to say including a Fokker so you could say dirty fokker) :D
