Air India A330s 25/11

Post by DaveSheffield » Tue Nov 25, 2014 12:13 pm

Hi all, amazing movements today, vt-iwa arrived this morning and vt-iwb is currently inbound.

Would anyone on here know if they're likely to be in for scrap?
The name says Sheffield but I'm actually South Wales based now! Also often seen at Southend, Heathrow, Manchester and Birmingham.

they are only about 14 years old so would have thought there is a bit of life left in them yet.

Both are leased from Yamasa Full Moon Company so maybe it's just a case that the lease has ended, they are the only 2 A330s in Air India's fleet so maybe they dont integrate with the other types very well.

They were purchased as interims when the 747s left the fleet and there wasn't enough 777s to cover the routes. As Air India are cannibalising 777s and 787s to keep their fleet going, I doubt these are for anything other than scrap! (They were dogs in service, always on tech delays at Heathrow!)

thanks Chris - I noticed there were no recent flights logged on FR24 so assumed they have been sitting around doing nothing for a while.

interesting comment about cannibalising 777s and 787s - or more precisely the 787s, are they having issues with them as I would have thought their purchase contract would have covered spares anyway? I see that VT-ANI is currently stored at Mumbai (since april this year)

For clarity, these both departed on Monday 18th to Lisbon as G-CINP & G-CINR.
