Wroughton aircraft store

Post by Danmadole » Tue May 05, 2015 7:10 am

Hi,

Does anyone know of any open days coming up in this year at the Science Museum, Wroughton?
Access to the aircraft hangar seems to be extremely limited outside of these occasional open days.
Nothing on the website.

Sorry, can't help with the next open day, but I took some pictures there in 2009 at the "Festival of Innovation", which can be seen here if you're interested:

:D

Gary- Got the following off the Science Museum Wroughton Website:-

The Science Museum Group stores its reserve collections at Wroughton near Swindon, and at Blythe House in West Kensington.

The Wroughton site is also home to the Science Museum Library and Archives, open to the public by appointment only.

Like most museums, the Science Museum Group is able to display only a fraction of its collection at any one time. The remainder are stored until they are needed for new exhibitions, both at the museums with the Group, and at other institutions.

The Wroughton site is a busy, working storage facility. The stores are not open to the public apart from pre-booked research visits (limited in number).

You can book a visit to research an object based at Wroughton by contacting:
Janet Marshall
Site Assistant
Science Museum Group at Wroughton

Hope it helps
