What plane to buy? Need your knowledge! :-)

Hi there,

I am a complete newbie at aviation but I like to research and I think that I have reached the point that I now need to turn to the experienced and professionals!

I would like to purchase a plane to carry my family of five between Canada and Central America frequently and perhaps across the Atlantic to Europe on occasions if it is possible.

From my research it seems that the Cessna 206 or 210 would fit the bill nicely. It is the cheapest in that rang and therefore making this dream possible. Seen some advertised for USD70k or so.

What is the difference between the Cessna six seaters and the other in the range that are usually twice the price, such as the Dehavilland Beaver and Piper for example?

One of the most important aspect of this project is that is has to be a floating plane, in the hope to have the flexibility to take off from, say, a lake in Canada and land in another lake in Central America. Is that even possible from a custom's perspective?

I presumed the wings have to be above the cabinet to make a float plane conversion? Hence the more limited six seater aircraft choice.

Is it possible to convert a Cessna 206 or 210 into a float plane? It seems to be popular for the smaller Cessnas.

Is there much difference between the 206 and the 210 except the rear doors?

What about pressurisation. What difference does a pressurised cabine makes to the journey? More economical, quieter, more comfortable, less bad weather... Bearing in mind our plane would be primarily used for long haul, not so much for a couple of hours of sight seeing of the sunset.

If you can help with just one of these questions I would be immensely grateful!

Thanks in advance!
Clem

Hi Clem, I think you've joined the wrong forum to give you answers to your questions as we discuss mainly civil aircraft news and movements here.
Perhaps you should join a more specialised forum like https://www.pprune.org/ and ask in their 'Private Flying' section as there are many light aircraft owners in there.
