BO-AC is back, Heathrow 19-02-2019

Post by andygolfer » Tue Feb 19, 2019 9:01 pm

Well we used to call it Bo-Ac in the good old days! anyway....

Ladies and Gentlemen , for your pleasure this evening I take you back in time to when airliners carried proper colour schemes and this was one of the best. For their centenary British Airways have painted G-BYGC in the BOAC scheme of the early 1970s and just how gorgeous does it look!
I was at Heathrow today and got these photos as it departed on it's first post-paint service to New York JFK......
Enjoy :)

OMG it's like going back in time! Just imagine if we could have photographed all those lovely aircraft back then, with the cameras of today, with limitless amounts of digital shots instead of film!
Absolutely brilliant, Andy.
Best Wishes.
Pete.

thanks for all the comments everybody and yes - wouldn't it have been nice to have digital cameras able to store 3000 photos in the '70s! There are so many I haven't got photos of because I'd only take 1 or 2 35mm films with me at 36 shots per film!

That 747 does look nice but for a while (and I can't remember if they did it with the 747s but certainly with the VC.10s) they had BOAC in gold on a widened cheat line on the nose- I thought that looked best of all.

Very nice pictures - from the DS field on Oaks Row?

You've now whetted my appetite to go up to LHR sooner, rather than later.

Great shot and great scheme Andy, such a shame there is so little variation in aircraft types and schemes these days!
Cheers

that's the one Neil, it's quite a good spot but you still get the occasional one that climbs too quickly :(

i'm still going through my others, have only done morning departures so far but they are in my flickr album for yesterday here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/125470545 ... 6995189024

i'm off out for the evening but will put up a post with some of them tomorrow at some point.

and thanks to Paul B for his comment as well.

Great shots Andy. Hope the sun is out at the weekend for those of us who have to attend to the grindstone during the week!

All the best.

Denis.
