SPOTM February 2019 - Jumbo Jubilee - 50 years of the mighty Boeing 747
This is the SPOTM (Special Photo Of The Month) competition for February 2019 and the subject is ‘Jumbo Jubilee - 50 years of the Boeing 747'
This month (actually today) marks 50 years since the maiden flight of the mighty Boeing 747 one of the most iconic airliners ever built so this month we offer you the chance to share your favourite 747 photo in our competition and see who com,es up with the most popular - lets have a JUMBO sized entry for the mighty Jumbo please!
The subject of your entry should be a photo of one or more civil registered Boeing 747s (any mark) including any preserved ex military with a civilian registration, aircraft carrying a military registration at the time of the photo are excluded BUT a photo of a civilian registered 747 which also contains other military registered aircraft is permissable (for instance performing a flypast with the Red Arrows - I think that happened at Fairford amongst other places).
Photography Competition Rules :-
1. Only one entry per user, unless posting on behalf of another person who is unable to do so themselves (children for example). If this is the case, please state so on your entry..
2. The photo may have been taken on any date, it does not have to be taken in the month of the competition
3. The image can be photo-shopped to some extent, levels changes, cropping, sharpening etc. are all acceptable. The photograph must retain it’s initial subject though, don’t make it something it’s not. HDR images are not acceptable. If you are unsure, please PM a moderator.
4. The competition will remain open until 23.59 (UK time) on the 7th March 2019 - please note new extended closing date to enable anyone with a last minute entry some breathing space.
5. Voting will be conducted by a poll open to all the membership shortly after the closure of the competition.
6. 'Rule 6...' There's no rule 6 Bruce'
7. The decision of the moderating team is final.
8. All images must be posted in line with the usual CA posting rules (size etc.), please read them if you're not sure how to post.
9. The rules may be subject to change, and these will be posted on this thread.
10. Please also embed the images and not links to images, if you're not sure how to do it then shout up and someone will sort it out. It is permissible to change your entry before the closing date.
11. Do not comment on other member's photos.
12. A brief description of where and when the image was taken would be nice too.
If you have any questions please PM me
Good luck everyone.
Andrew

Decisions, decisons. So many photos of 747s to choose from. But in the end I'll go with this one, just because I like the shot even though it is distant. I think the colours are nice too.
It was this or a Seaboard World Containership about to touch down at Heathrow.

I'm going to go with this freighter landing at Doncaster, wearing it's old Saudi Airlines colours (half painted over) before being repainted in the Magma Aviation scheme. TF-AMP, 5th November 2017.

I've been lucky to see several flying dsplays of the Boeing 747 at airshows. This is my favourite, South African Airlines ZS-SAY at Yeovilton Air Day 2005, a truly amazing display.

Sadly my JASDF didn't qualify as it is military, so here's my favourite 747 of the civilian side

I tried to find something from the early days of 747s but most of my prints / slides from them are pretty poor and I couldn't find one as old as Stephen's Pan Am example, well done Stephen! (maybe we should have a special award for the earliest photo
). For now I've gone for something far newer, Silkway's B747-8F VQ-BVB touching down at Stansted in August 2015 but if I get time I will go through more of my oldies to see what I can turn up but timee seems short at present.

Here's a favourite civilian 747 photo, due to it's perspective showing off that unique hump of hers!
Sadly can't get a shot like this at LHR anymore due to the extra fencing. It's also been my avatar since I joined the group, you may observe.

I’ve decided to go with this one purely for nostalgic reasons. This was the first Boeing 747 I ever saw, photographed with my first SLR camera, on my first ever trip abroad!

Not the best shot - through a terminal window, on a bridge camera, but just for fun, a completely white 748f being loaded with asparagus in Lima for Miami.
