Gardening advice required please

Post by andygolfer » Sun Jun 27, 2021 9:47 am

My fish pond is overgrown with water lilies and I want to cut them back, can I use an electric hedge trimmer under water or will it frighten the fish?
also will it make much mess?

Sounds like a good idea where nothing should go wrong, just make sure that you disconnect the earth connection in the plug first as you don't want to get it wet.

that's a good idea as I wouldn't want to electrocute the fish. There's no earth in the pond just a bit of mud anyway.

How about using weed-killer, you might need to use quite a lot if it's a big pond though.

I suppose that would work as long it's selective killer as I don't want to damage the other plants. will a pellet type work or will the fish eat it?

Just lob a grenade in - very quick, reasonably safe and shouldn't cause much mess.

HMM, not so sure - 'you're only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!' comes to mind

Your pond has doors? Why not open the doors and let the fish out, drain the pond then remove Lily's (if she doesn't object) then refill open the doors and the fish can enjoy their new surroundings. :ninja:
