Farnborough 17-7-18

Post by LondonEye » Fri Jul 20, 2018 8:06 am

Farnborough Tuesday. Funny old weather. Quite overcast, sometimes bright, sometimes dark clouds. Hot with a breeze.
For me, Farnborough has always been about seeing latest types, especially airliner and commuter aircraft.
We all know, that nowdays, several interesting aircraft will leave before the weekend ' standard ' airshow.
To me, there seemed far more aircraft enthusiasts around this year, some quite noticeable.
For photography, the normal problem of barriers and close positioning, sometimes caused by the fact that aircraft will be pulled out of static to fly.
So, here goes, most self explanatory.

This surprised me. The deal with Bombardier now seems to have the CS series marketed as the A220

The cargo village had two B747 and an An124. Nice to get up close and onboard.

* Having submitted topic, I have now noticed that in some pictures, noses have been cut off. Pictures are fine on FlikR. Any idea what I might have done wrong ?
Cheers.

Wonderful photos. I haven't been to SBAC for years. Must return, and soon.
Great stuff, regards, Eric

very nice set throughout but I can't see any cut off noses on my PC screen. the maximum setting on here is 1600px so did you load them at a larger size than that? If you did try clicking the copy button again and it offers a selection of sizes,- try selecting 1600 px or a bit less to see if that cures it.

No problem with the size, but thanks for suggesting. Mine tend to average 1024 x 678.
I use both MS Edge and IE11. It only seems to effect IE11 ...hey ho !

By my reckoning, looking at Farnborough Spotters website, already at least 10 frames have departed before the weekend.
Thanks for the favourable comments so far.
Pete.

Same with me: ever since the change of server, just about all photo-postings on CA and FC appear as portrait rather than landscape, so front or rear half of aircraft subjects are missing. I too was wondering if, because a handful of postings do appear in landscape and the aircraft can be seen in their entirety, it's down to the size being selected when sending them through from Flickr. The only 'solution' I have found is to reduce the size of the screen (default setting is 125%; have had to go as low as 50% to get the full aircraft in), but that makes it impossible to read any script. It's a pain in the :grr: !

I don't think it's a Flickr problem. I think it's to do with the board software and Internet Explorer. Internet Explorer has a propensity for not conforming to web standards, which means pages sometimes don't work properly in it, whereas in other browsers (Firefox, Chrome etc) they do. Edge is supposed to be better than Internet Explorer, but I wouldn't be surprised if there are still problems. If I use Internet Explorer and make the window small, the photos do not resize correctly and the right edge is chopped off, whereas in Firefox and Chrome they are resized correctly. From helping out with a different aviation board, I know that the software this board uses (phpBB) has a plugin that dynamically resizes images, so I suspect this site using it too. It is probably the case that the plugin does not work correctly with Internet Explorer/Edge. Something for whoever looks after the technical side of this board to look into (sorry for creating him/her work!).

Great shots...Thanks for sharing

But incase there is any confusion I think the Qatar 747-8F is A7-BGB(AGB is an A340)

Thanks for the info, PorkScratching; much appreciated and an interesting insight.
