Duxford BoB show 20-9-2015

Post by andygolfer » Thu Sep 24, 2015 6:56 pm

A few hours kip on Saturday night after my journey back from Antalya and it was off to Duxford early for the 2nd day of the autumn show, themed on the Battle of Britain 75th anniversary. It was a sell out and fortunately I had ordered tickets before my holiday so it was into the FoD enclosure to get front row seats with brother and friend and then taking it in turns to tour the flightline before the display started - a steady stream of Classic Wings flights provided entertainment and some photo practice.
I thought it was a great show throughout and the highlight without doubt was the 17 Spitfire scramble followed by flypasts and tail chases, far far better than the Biggin event that I went to a month or so ago. A good selection of aircraft, mainly warbirds although there were a couple of genuine military items - the Chinook was spectacular to say the least and the BBMF flypast with the Red Arrows (followed by the Reds display) was a great end to the show. It might be small but it performs very well, not what the actress said to the bishop but my summary of the Calidus gyrocopter, I've seen it 4 times this year and every time I've enjoyed it.

Well done Duxford and on with some photo, the descriptions on my flickR album give most of the civil regs BTW.......

I tried hard to make the pics look authentic 1940s types but got a bit fed up with the freeloaders on the naughty fields in bright coloured shirts upsetting the authenticity, for goodness sake if you must go in the naughty fields at least wear camouflage so you don't stick out like a sore thumb on my pics please...

Nice set Andy. I was there on Saturday, but unfortunately was a few rows back from the fence line. Which meant I couldn't get any take off or low passes shots ! I must admit I'm not one to camp out at the fence line from seven in the morning, but can usually find a place up front an hour before the show starts. I suppose the sheer amount of people there made the difference. Any how Andy, all your pics are a good 'un.

WOW stunning pics mate and some very are very nostalgic.

I really love the one of the guys under the spit wing having a laugh officers and ground crew all together the shot is so natural and this was exactly what it was like in 1940 the ground crew and pilots had such a fantastic bond and to think how young these pilots were makes you wonder.

bet you had a massive lump in your throat when all them spits and hurris flew past I no I would have been struggling to keep it together.
