messages from Stansted airport planewatch scheme

Post by andygolfer » Thu Jul 24, 2014 2:44 pm

I received this e-mail earlier, please help make the job of the police as easy as possible and comply fully with this request...

Dear Members & Non Members of the Stansted Airport Plane Watch Scheme,

We are experiencing increasing difficulties with Aviation Enthusiasts along the security fence adjacent to Universal Aviation and Building 130 (the Airside entrance gate), located within the Stansted Business Park (Northside) area of Stansted Airport.

Some people are parking their own vehicles in the Universal and Inflite Staff Car Parks. People have been seen walking along the fence line, moving pieces of furniture and using them to view over the fence.

People have also been seen standing on vehicles, and moving picnic benches up to the fence and so on.

Whilst in the past, Universal have been happy to allow people into their grounds to view aircraft, this luxury has now be withdrawn with immediate effect. This is due to the increase in incidents whereby people are not considering the views of the businesses, adhering to signs and creating security risks.

Yesterday, I attended a meeting with the Management at Universal, to assure them that Plane Watch members do respect the businesses and understand the restrictions around the Airport. I was pleased so see some members yesterday.

The car park outside Universal is private property and must not be entered. Moving benches which are provided for their staff, to create viewing platforms is not acceptable. Neither is standing on step ladders on benches either.

Please see the attached photograph taken within the Universal car park. This is clearly unacceptable and must stop. I have also been informed that enthusiasts have been caught on the roof of the Universal building, having climbed up the fire exit stairs, then pulling themselves onto the roof.

This is extremely dangerous, and creates a security risk which may warrant an Armed Police Response.

Whilst I fully understand and always praise Plane Watch members to these businesses, I would be extremely disappointed to find any members being involved in such incidents. I strongly suspect that the persons responsible are NOT members and I therefore fully encourage members to forward this email onto anyone who can assist with is dissemination across the wider aviation networks.

I take this opportunity to remind every visitor to the Airport that there is a list of Byelaws in place, which will be enforced. They relate to Prohibition Notices, Causing Annoyance, Climbing Fences and so on. There is a strict limit of having ladders and so on within a 3 metre distance of the perimeter fence.

Should anyone wish to discuss the matter further, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Kind Regards
Andygolfer (or at least I was once), now just plane crazy

this is a message from Mark of the local police planewatch team which I received yesterday intended for all planewatch members but applies to everybody visiting Stansted particularly northside following last week's incursion by the non-spotting idiots, they are having to increase northside security so please take note and make their job easier, thank you:

Good Afternoon all

During this time of heightened security can I please ask that all Plane Watch members are vigilant and reporting any suspicious activity they notice in and around the airport area, especially those that are noticing people in odd locations who are not plane watch members.

Your help is always greatly appreciated and you never know what tiny bit of information can help prevent or solve something much larger

And 99% of all members need not read this next part but for those that are unsure please only use the pay and display car park to the left of First Avenue if you are using North Side. Security patrols are going to be significantly increased over the coming weeks and those that are breaching parking and/or waiting restrictions may be fined or have their membership revoked. My apologies for bearing this news to all of you that do follow the rules – I just don’t want to see any of you getting fines!

Thanks all
