Visiting Heathrow...

Post by Batman3 » Sun Dec 13, 2009 3:59 pm

Ok, someone was bound to start this topic sooner or later...

Basically me and a friend are biting the bullet and trying a day out at a civie field, Heathrow. Having looked on google earth there doesn't look like any decent places to actually park up and shoot. Can anyone reccomend a few places - i've heard a petrol station mentioned before?
Mainly interested in the A-380 or more uncommon types...

i'm sure the Heathrow regulars will be along for better advice.

but i've been to Myrtle avenue and its a cracking spot for 27L

and i believe you can park at the Heathrow academy and photo the approach to 27R from there.

09 end i'm not sure about but in the old days i used to go to a pub beer garden under 09L approach and eat and drink as they came over your head.

If they are landing from the west then you might want to try here. Park up on the path - i've never seen any problems there, and stand in the field. They use 09L all day when landing this way with only the odd a/c that lands on 09R

It's also worth trying the field behind you at Myrtle ave, parking is easier in cains lane and photography is slightly easier for the heavys!

Have a good time!

Spotters corner is Myrtle Avenue in Bedfont and is just opposite the 27L threshold by Hatton Cross, with the BP petrol station behind the tube station on the opposite side of the road. The tube car park is free at the weekends anyway.

THE A380 Video for you http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QnpBVEeLDW4" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lv2frCF2 ... 85DE52F271" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

You can park at the Heathrow academy and photo the approach to 27R from there and this where
Newall Road on North side is where the spotters ramp is by Cardinal Point, the big brown building.

use this one to go onto google maps and zoom in to blob E Hatton Cross tube and pan round on street view from the BP garage

WARNING; Don't stand or park too close to the undershoot though!:

The footbridge at Hatton Cross tube station is good for 27l arrivals/09R departures and only a short walk from Spotters corner/Myrtle Avenue.

This was where the 777 landed just across the road from the spotters at Hatton X.

I never have been visited the Heathrow airport but I want to. Many of my relatives are there and they live in the London. When they visit that airport first time then they cal me and tell me that you also have to visit this airport at least once. So I am planning to go at there in this November.

Can't believe you'd shoot civvies Rick.....what has the world come to!

As said above, Myrtle is great for 27L landings. there are loads of spots on the perimeter road to get shots for 27R as well (http://www.flashearth.com/?lat=51.47609 ... =0&src=msa" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)

Also, for interesting stuff you might want to shoot through the fence, but don't stay there for long as the police don't really like it :P

A couple of old shots
