How would you edit this...
OK, so this is something i saw mentioned in another post a while back, and thought I would initiate it!!
Here is a photo that was taken of G-XLEF during finals at Heathrow on the 17th March - how would edit it?
The image size is 4000x2500 pixels, taken on a Canon EOS 600d, with a Canon 70-200mm F4 L Lens. Exported straight from the RAW file in Lightroom, but otherwise completely un-molested!!
Over to you!!

Re: How would you edit this...
here's my attempt, using Canon DPP, adjustment figures are those on the Canon DPP programme
1: a slight amount of sharpening, +30 (It would probably have been best if you had sharpened it first before posting at the reduced size Dan)
2: cropped to get centre of fuselage at centre vertically and to get equal space between nose and tail ends of fuselage horizontally, I allowed the wing tip to go close to LH edge of photo to get approximately my preferred amount of space front and back - that really is a personal preference and I'm always interested to know peoples' thoughts on that. I like a bit of space in front to give it 'space to fly into' but I know some of the hosting sites like close cropped.
3: adjusted the saturation slightly to pick out the colours a bit against the background - up 10 points to 110
4: adjusted the contrast a fraction 2 points
5: adjusted the brightness down slightly -2 points (10 points is about 1 stop on DPP)
and that was all

so who else is going to have a go and Dan - what did you do with it as a comparison although you took it in RAW so might have been a different approach altogether? If you are putting one up as your preference a JPEG edit might be better for comparison
I wonder who else will have a go. An interesting exercise and I bet we don't get 2 the same!

Re: How would you edit this...
My ten pence worth, I often like to crop it to show the "business end" of the frame, flight deck, engines and undercarriage, so have done that, plus adjusted the blue sky background a little. I don't think you always necessarily need to see the entire plane but that's just my take on it.

Re: How would you edit this...
Cheers guys... Interesting to see the different results from the different ways of processing the image.
I hadn't actually processed this one, other than exporting it for here, so here's my edit of the same JPEG version of the image that you have worked on. This was done in Lightroom CC 2015.
This was a basic, quick edit. But here's what was done:
1. Cropped to 16:10 ratio
2. Sharpening mask applied in Lightroom - boosting Clarity to +10
3. Vibrance boosted to +8
4. Saturation to +7
5. Exposure to +0.15
6. Shadows to +10
7. Blacks to +3
8. Lens correction profile applied for the Canon 70-200 F4 L Lens - not really needed that much as there wasn't anything that needed correcting (but a thing of habit!!)
Will anyone else have a go?

Re: How would you edit this...
mine looks a bit too sharp now although it looks slightly softer on FlickR! Very interesting to see the different approaches

Re: How would you edit this...
I don't normally like gimics, but in this case I quite like the scheme!
Using PhotoScape, I simply clicked on reverse Black & White, then sharpened at level 3.
Feel free to express total disgust.

that produces a well lit underside - who needs topsides to catch the best light?
