Canon launch the 80d
Canon launch the 80d
Canon announced the 80d yesterday, however with a price tag of £999 from WEX I think I'll stick with my 70d for the foreseeable future.

I'm thinking that it is about £200-250 over priced from what it should be offered at.

Re: Canon launch the 80d
What about my Pentax ME Super, then?

Re: Canon launch the 80d
a few years ago i would have been on the waiting list for the 80D but i am over that now, i had the 30D and then bought the 40D and kept the 30D as a second body then i bought the 50D and sold the 30D then i bought a 7D and sold the 40D, I managed to resist the 60D.70D and will also resist the 80D as well but i did have a look at it on the Jessops website thanks to an e mail that they sent me
Re: Canon launch the 80d
I'm in a bit a pickle here, its time to retire my faithful 600D, but I'm torn between the 7Dmk2 & 80D, both are of similar price. Pros & Cons for both, could anybody help, just a honest opinion
Re: Canon launch the 80d
I have the 7D mk11 and it is a fantastic camera well suited to aviation photography and if you shoot at airshows it is perfect for fast jets, with excellent autofocus and 10FPS shooting speedWrighty wrote:I'm in a bit a pickle here, its time to retire my faithful 600D, but I'm torn between the 7Dmk2 & 80D, both are of similar price. the 80D has more megapixels, a flip out screen and wi-fi capability but a lower FPS rate, still good at 7FPS and less autofocus points
if you are likely to use your camera to shoot video then the flip screen may be useful and you want to transfer files via wi-fi and control your camera with your smartphone then the 80D has this capability where the 7D mk2 does not
I do not shoot video on a DSLR have never used the LCD in live view to shoot images and don't really have the need to send files over wifi so i would go for the 7dmk2, but if your needs are different then the 80D may be right for you

Re: Canon launch the 80d
or if you're not worried about having the very latest camera there will probably be a few outlets reducing the price of the 70D to clear old stock, this usually happens when a new version comes out and there are always bargains to be had.Wrighty wrote:I'm in a bit a pickle here, its time to retire my faithful 600D, but I'm torn between the 7Dmk2 & 80D, both are of similar price. I certainly don't intend to upgrade just because there is a new upgraded model out, I feel my 70D and 600D are more than adequate for my needs and if I wanted to do anything I would prefer to spend money on a new mid range lens.
I get a bit puzzled when I read people saying they are rushing out to get the new model and always wonder 'is your present camera on it's last legs then?' or is it just a case of must be first with the new model. My 600D is up to about 85000 actuations but is still going well and that won't get replaced until it finally gives up, my old 1000D has only about 50000 but that doesn't get used very much nowaday unless I just want something simple and light to carry with me for a change, it still does a good job even though it's a bit basic and is there as a temporary spare if the 600D does suddenly pack up.
EDIT: having just read several comparison reviews there seems to be very little difference unless you are into video in a big way.

Re: Canon launch the 80d
I was in the same position as you about a year ago, wondering which body to get in addition to a 600d. I made the decision of getting a 70d - and don't regret it for a minute! The image quality is to, a lot better, and it was a snip at £549 body only.Wrighty wrote:I'm in a bit a pickle here, its time to retire my faithful 600D, but I'm torn between the 7Dmk2 & 80D, both are of similar price. I would seriously recommend getting a 70d - there is groundbreaking amount of difference between the 70d and the 80d - apart from the cost!! (The 80d being around £999 - which seems quite expensive)
From HDEW you can get the 70d for £549, or as someone else has mentioned the 7d Mk ii for £899 - offering a big saving over Wex, Amazon and other places. (you would notice a big leap on both of those!)
