Battery grips

Hi all,

Those of you with battery grips, do you find any other benefits other than the obvious additional battery life?

Are there any cons?

I'm wondering whether to buy one, I have several batteries already and the time it takes to change them, I wouldn't buy a grip just for that.

A couple of things come to mind, other than the obvious, as you say;

Adds bulk to the camera, makes it easier to hold if you're as ham-fisted as I am!
Useful if you need to shoot portrait as the buttons will stay in the right place (presuming the grip has a trigger and control wheels!)

I prefer the extra weight on the body when using a big zoom or prime - less 'front heavy' and easier on the wrist.

I bought genuine Nikon grips - a bit pricey for all they are though.....

Never had a problem with any of mine . When i get a body first thing with it is a spare battery and grip makes it more comfortable with 100-400 & 500 lens, better balance.

Firstly there was the weight, ok when you're fully fit , but in my case (I have a mobility problem with my left arm) it proved too much (It took me three years to realise how much easier it was with out one!!)
Then I started missing shots, which was down to the fact that it would lose contact inside the housing, then the thread wouldn't unscrew , this was turned out to be an inherent fault with a genuine Canon grip.
So I rest my case , too many cons that far outweighed any pros in my case.

Sorry to dig up old posts but Extra weight for balancing its easier for a portrait shoot and also I have big hands and my little finger used to slip under the grip and after a while it start to hurt battery grip sorted that
