I'm pretty sure this was the Aer Lingus 1-11 that I got my first verbal warning for.....(although it may have been "nellie hotel")

As it was a series-200, it was critical on balance if you had 30 passengers or less. One night in 1976, I was load controller for the EI 259 EDI-DUB sector, which took off at 20:30, with only a 35min turnaround time. There were less than 30 passengers, so everyone had to be seated in the front rows, all baggage and freight into the front of the front hold. It still needed the "special trim" on the trim sheet, which I was always happy for the Captain to sign off!

The freight department (Scotia Airport Services before it became Servisair) had loaded 4 "ligatures" at 200kg in the front hold, and told me they were spread and tied down. I didn't check, as time was too short and I was supervising the refuelling. The flight took off for Dublin, and we had to wait until it had landed before we could go home (i.e. go to the pub..)

The Duty Officer took the call from Dublin and said "everyone can go. except John Morgan..." I went cold....

Apparently, with the gentle impact of the landing at Dublin, the 4 ligatures (which had not been spread and all sheathed one within the other - 200kg pressing down on a point the size of a 2p piece) went through the floor and took the aircraft out of service for a couple of weeks.

Ahh, these were the days...

Always liked the British World livery. Shame it was so short lived.

The One-Eleven is one of my favourite airliners, and there were certainly plenty to see at Birmingham in the 1980s.

Great pictures and great memories- remember flying to Menorca on a European Air Charter 1-11 G-AYOP- for a weeks holiday- on the return flight an engineer came out to the aircraft and hit one of the engines with a hammer- did not instil us with confidence as we were a the back of the aircraft next to the engines.

Happy Days

Bob

A great post
I saw most of the 1-11's as they were built at Hurn and I lived nearby at West Parley.
I fondly remember those wonderful Courtline frames and the powerful roar of the Rolls Royce Spey engines.
Thanks all for sharing the wonderful nostalgic pics
