Stansted, 3-5-11, evening shots (my first post)

Post by andygolfer » Wed May 04, 2011 5:36 pm

Hi, this is my first post on here, only joined last weekend although I’ve been watching for a while. I live close to Stansted so pop over there regularly with my camera to see what is about and to try to improve my photography a bit so I thought I would post these as a way of introducing myself.
These were taken last evening from the mound on the north side close to the mid point crossing. The runway in use was 04 which isn’t my favourite but such is life. I usually go to this spot in the evenings as the light is good from this side and I can see all the movements , in the mornings I tend to go to one of several points on the approach depending which runway is in use but then of course I miss the take offs.
There wasn’t anything unusual last night but I practiced on these regulars and the light was good as well right until around 8.30pm.

The Air Contractors ATR72 Fedex feeder was well above me by the time it passed, didn’t really need the full length – a good example of why I prefer runway 22 in use (except they don’t go out low over my house)

Likewise this Falcon, VQ-BAA caught me out didn’t see it taxi and missed it until it was going past me (the bushes obscure the view out to the west)

One of 3 Germanwings flights that arrived all around the same time

The first of 2 FedEx B.777s, (there was also an MD.11 as it was getting too dark for photos)

Another FedEx feeder flight:

The BMI Baby flight to Belfast departing in the evening sun

Then another Fed Ex feeder , the Swift Air Emb 120:

EasyJet are common but I liked the light on this one so I included it:

An Air Berlin DHC-8-400 just after turning off the runway

Then a UPS 767 (N324UP) arrived as it was getting a bit dark , had to up the ISO to 1600 and reduce the shutter speed for this one, after this the camera was packed away for the night

And of course you can’t go to Stansted without seeing a Ryanair 737 and this one caught the light quite well so I included it in the set

Hope you like them – comments welcome
