A380's a plenty

Post by GARYKING » Tue Jan 04, 2011 5:37 pm

First outing of this year was a let down with the weather.

I wish either Met Check or The BBC would be correct more often. At over 500 mile round trip, I wasn't ammused to get to Heathrow to be face with cloud all day with tiny bursts of sun, or washed out sun from thin cloud. :grr:

2nd Jan 2011 EGLL/LHR/Heathrow - (Canon EOS450D 70-200mm F4 L non-IS)

Plenty of A380'S and a few other nice birds

The craines are working on T2.

The images are taken about 500 meters from Hatton Cross on the dual carrage way near a place called Caines Lane. You need a big tall set of step ladders and be over 6ft to get those taxiing shots.

Or just take ladders...

Nice pics.

Early on last year you could get away with just ladders and go up againts the 'inner fence' off caines lane/Myrtle Ave. But now the Authorities move you to the 'outter fence' right along the dual carrage way.

I went with two friends, They had 4 step step ladders and are only not 6ft, They had no chance of getting taxi shots, It meant shooting through the fence, let alone the barbed wire at the top. If you look at my Taxi shots, You can see the barbed wire in the bottom third of the shots, They don't interfer with the shots.

What I'm trying to do is offer advice and try not to cause disapointment, if anyone was going to LHR and wanted shots like this, you need big step ladders and to be tall.

These were taken from the 'outter fence' on ladders with no trouble at all from the police and I was there most of the day....

It's's nothing to do with the police, it's BAA land and therefore their security that'll ask you to move. I was asked to move back, across the perimeter road to the grass verge. you just cross to shoot, then go back.

Of course, putting ladders up against a fence is, in my opinion, stupid. At any airport!

Perhaps we're getting confused on this matter........I feel like I'm being called a liar. As a fairly regular photograher to Heathrow I know for a fact that where these photos were taken that you need Ladders and to be tall. I was was two other photograhers who couldn't clear the 8/9 ft fence with their height and four step ladders.

Here a link to the location where I took them.

The Police might ask you a question or two, but BAA/Heathrow security will move you to a safe location....... the other side of the outer fence next to a dual carrage way.

I'm not calling you a liar at all mate. Your link to Google maps doesnt work (Don't know if thats just for me?)

The photos that I linked were taken behind the fence in the dual carrage way with ladders. Not step ladders - ladders. About a 5 step and I'm 5ft 9.
Cheers,

Charles
