Warsaw/Yerevan trip 11/23

Hi all.

A trip that was too good for me to resist, the primary purpose was to watch the Welsh football team play away to Armenia. When I say it was another good trip ruined by the football, well, many of you will know what I mean.

Armenia not the easiest to access, but several connections via european airports gave a fair bit of choice. Some of the boys took Wizzair via Larnaca, but I refuse to fly with that shambles of a company so I reacquainted myself with Poland and LOT.

A very very cold Warsaw was a challenge, as the weather wasn't the best on either day. I made full use of the (behind glass) viewing terrace, but it was far too cold to venture out to the runway threshold spots.

As for Yerevan, well, a last minute runway change when we took a taxi to a small village at the end of the runway with a Sepehran Air 737 inbound was heartbreaking. But, as I say, on this side of the trip anything was a bonus. The lack of English spoken out there meant I wasn't overly confident in doing too much spotting, especially going anywhere near the Russian air force base at Erebuni. That said, stood at the top of the Cascade monument - a set of impressive steps overlooking the city - with a hefty zoom I was able to see the lines of Mig 29s, and a pair of hips bashing the circuit with the incredible Mount Ararat in the background. I won't post the images here as they're incredibly grainy and not really worth it.

Some departures from that village;

The frames stored outside the old soviet terminal, taken from the concourse just at the entrance to departures. I had no trouble taking these.

Inside the terminal, enormous glass panels overlooking the fairly small parking area were okay-ish for record shots. I was just happy to get some RA- in the logbook, I wasn't sure that would be something I'd ever get to do again.

Cracking set :clap:

Nice different variety and some things we'll never see over in the EU again (Redwing, UTair etc) I can imagine it was strange collecting RA serials!

Weather at Warsaw looked absolutely dismal! Didn't know there was a viewing deck of any description there
