London Heathrow Nikon D810 test 13-05-22 Part 1

Hello all,

Early in May I spent a lot of money treating myself to a second hand Nikon D810 and a new Sigma 150-600m contemporary lens. I have been using the Nikon D5500, which I still have, but this D810 is my first step onto the full frame camera range, and what a beast it is! Coupled up with the Sigma 600 lens, it's absolutely brilliant and has some fantastic results! I have mostly tried it with birds, but on Friday 13th May I had a rest day from work so decided on a day out at Heathrow to try the camera on some aircraft, and cop some serials, which I did, 80 new frames I scored, which is no surprise, my last visit was about 4 years ago!

There are many pictures I took, and am still slowly working through them, not because I'm spending hours editing, it's just having the time to do that, then add it on Flickr and type up all the tags on there (which is the time consuming part!)

Any C&C is most welcome but I can say I am pleased with my camera and lens!

Great set James - looks like the Sigma is working well - I use one on a Canon 6D. I find it does need good light - of which you had plenty! Good job - keep them coming please.

very nice James, I've got a 150-600C but on my Canon 80D and it does produce good results although it isn't quite as good in poor light.
I've been very pleased with mine although it is a bit heavy, I bought a blackrapid shoulder strap for mine which makes it far more comfortable on a long day, there are other shoulder straps available and you might find it worth buying one. I wouldn't want to use the 150-600 Sport without a shoulder strap, that weighs about a kilo more than the C version :o

Good luck with with the new combination and I look forward to enjoying more of your results
Andy

Thank you!

I'll post part 2 soon, but yes I saw on reviews how heavier the Sport is, and the contemporary is still good enough so I went for that on that basis!

Any recommended straps or they all pretty similar? I certainly felt it in my arms near the end of the day, though I did change over to a 300mm later in the day which was as light as paper in comparison

Another note I like with the D810 is the lower ISO options, which I assume is on your Canons as well, so I was playing in Manual mode, you'll note the prop blur I managed on the Crash 8 and the blade blur on the BA A320neo (TTNF), that was at shutter 160, the F stop was something like F.12 or F.13 and the ISO at L0.3.

As I found through some test shots on BA A320's, always good test subjects, you have to hold the camera and lens steady!
