Heathrow 20-10-2021

Post by andygolfer » Fri Oct 22, 2021 11:25 am

At last! I finally made it to Heathrow in 2021
It had been over a year since I last visited and on that occasion I was flying to and from Bologna so could only watch from the business lounge (and it rained!), I had a half day in September last year as well so there was a lot to catch up on, it's getting busier but nothing like pre covid times. Lots of new types to see and a few missing as well - so odd to only see one 747 all day. I had a moorning :D on Stains Moor getting departures then went to the football club for a while for a few arrivals then back to the moor for some afternoon departures before a tortuous journey home on the M25, still it was worth it. Here's a selection of what I saw, there are loads more in my flickr album https://www.flickr.com/photos/125470545 ... 617756303/

starting with some morning departures
I only saw one A380, two others arrived but I was in the wrong place when they came and went. There was a BA one in as well

typical, not enough sun on the A380 then a bit too much on this Gulf Air 787, pity because it was a nice angle

the Etihad greenliner, not totally sure about the scheme TBH:

a Delta special scheme, (Breast Cancer Research Foundation)

I was pleased to catch the BA Better World A320N, some don't like the scheme but I think it works quite well

a couple of A350s the first one banked quite nicely

thanks for the comment, this is a guide that I wrote a few years back now: viewtopic.php?f=36&t=30594

if you look at the second map (27L departures) you can see a footpath that goes south off the map to the east of the river, I go about 400m south of where the two footpaths split and go across to the river edge, it's about half way to where the next footbridge is, anywhere around there is fine but you do need a long lens (I've got a 150-600) otherwise anything small not turning south is going to be a bit on the small side. If your lens isn't up to that then hang around hear the footbridge on the map and you will still get good shots . There can be a lot of heat haze in the summer though so choose a cooler day and out of high summer. You can really just move around and find a place that suits you for the angles you want - a bit of trial and error at times.

Lovely set Andy - some beautiful cloudscapes and very colourful liveries.

Very glad you managed a Heathrow trip this year Andy! Your explorations obviously paid dividends too.
