Cambridgeshire triple header 30-05-2021 part 2 - Gransden lodge

Post by andygolfer » Thu Jun 03, 2021 7:47 pm

Gransden lodge was the second stop on my west Cambridgeshire tour last Sunday. It's home to the Cambridge Gliding Club with a large compliment of gliders based there. The locals were very friendly and we were able to wander around as long as we kept off the active area of the airfield. Unfortunately there was an easterly wind and we couldn't venture to the far end of the airfield to the launch point so active photos were somewhat limited , if you plan a visit then try to go when there's a westerly wind and all the action will be much closer - take offs and landings.
It was mid afternoon when we arrived and some gliders were already being put away but we still saw a good number......

the active tug aircraft....

I had quite a long chat with the owner of this one who explained the intricasies of the pop up jet engine which can be used to maintain flight if you lose lift and need to get to a safe landing ground, far better than landing in a potato field!

Shot 3 is a perfect study of a glider at rest.
