Thanks for the comments...... It was on a shake down flight after maintenance I believe. I think he was bored going round in circles at various levels from and to Cardiff and wanted a change of scenery.... Only did 1 approach to.

Mike ,
BA Cardiff does heavy maintenance on the widebodies , 744s especially . Most likely post a 'D' check .
Very , very , unlikely crew training . The 744 sims are 'zero' flight time rated ... In practice that means the conversion course is.....
Ground school to Technical exam .
Sim training to type rating and Instrument rating test .
Traditionally ....next would be circuits and bumps at base training . [ My 1st type was trident 1/2 . Did 7 hours of base training ] .
Type rating issue by CAA . Line flying follows , to company final route check .
Now the base detail is carried out in the sim with a base training rated Training Capt.
Type rating issue by CAA. Line flying follows , to company final route check .
I converted to 744 in '02 from 734 . Had an hangar visit on ground school , but 1st time I saw the a/c proper was to take 350 pax to Lagos ! My landing as well .
All new entrants destined for Long Haul have to have licences and experience to do zero flt time conversions . The only base training carried out is for ex-cadets on their 1st type rating , or people coming from T/props to Jets . [ That's assuming the new type sim is zero flt rated ].ie. mostly A320s ands 73s..
My last 2 base details were 75s , having come from ATP [T/prop] . And Tristar , coming from 75/76s ..... Tristar sim 25+ years old and not suitable for zero flt training .

Hope that explains the process ,

Mike , thanks for reply ... Only just caught up .. That was probably the last 744 to come off heavy maintenance in Cardiff . Due the last 18 months of mayhem , and all Ba 744s being retired / scrapped . Think every thing I flew on has been retired apart from some 75s and ATPs which have been freight converted . Truly a dinasour .

rgds condor .

PS . apart from one in a recent post ...
