Nice to see Newcastle being reported.
My first visit was back in 1984 and there was a roof viewing area, giving pretty good views.
My second visit, in 1997, it was gone !

I was up there begining of July and found a spot off the road near the cargo area. Road in said no unauthorized vehicles beyond this point, so duly paid and parked at a pub car park a couple of hundred yards away. Position and light were perfect for landing shots and not bothered until I was leaving when a police officer stops and asks if I had permission. Pleasant enough but a jobs worth, I was too close to the airport, 20 yards from a footpath! Advised me to go to the spectators area which visting from outside the area you would have no idea existed.
