50 shades of grey at Stansted 10-12-2016

Post by andygolfer » Sun Dec 11, 2016 1:13 pm

you can almost predict that the weather will be bad when the planewatch scheme's spotter Saturdays at the Aerozone are taking place  Yesterday was as grey as a grey seal covered in maldon's famous grey mud, I got there at 9.15 and just made out the tail of a Ryanair on the adjacent taxiway, I missed the Cargolux departure a few minutes earlier but so did everybody else who was already there, the only difference was that they heard it! We couldn't see the runway until nearly 10.00! The fog shifted quite suddenly but the cloud stayed low all morning and by 12.15 the cloudbase was about 200 ft and it was very dark, the lights stood out well though (as you can see from some of the pics)! Coupled with drizzle it was only for the hardy (or foolish!). Shame was the business side was as full as I've seen it for ages, over 30 bizjet etc on the ground at one point - shame more didnt move. My pics:

the scene when I arrived:

not Ezy to see, even on the taxiway:

some of the biz which were photographable:

a rather large biz jet, shame about the weather- and the pole, one day I'll get a decent pic of it

a few regulars:

at least the lights on the taxiway and aircraft were bright - nice and seasonal:

my last but one frame of the Panalpina, in the next one it was in the cloud at abot 200ft!
ImageN850GT B.747-8F Panalpina dep 12.24 Stansted 10-12-2016 4059 by Andrew Goldsmith, on Flickr

amazing really, the lights were bright enough for someone with dark sunglasses to follow the centre line but this one still went one side of them
ImageTC-CPF B.737 Pegasus Stansted 10-12-2016 4090 by Andrew Goldsmith, on Flickr

and this one was just before I left, I took it with +1/3 aperture adjustment and have only just tweaked it back on the editing to zero
ImageTC-ATT A.320 Atlas Global Stansted 10-12-2016 4039 by Andrew Goldsmith, on Flickr

and this one was taken when it was quite dark and i did tweak the light down about a stop on the editing an tried a farty-arty effect with enhancing the colours and contrast a bit, hope it works but I'm no expert on 'in depth' editing

We are definitely overdue a crisp sunny day for these events! We did have a good selection of biz that taxied close to us, as can be seen in your shots, so that was a positive. I think the last one works very well indeed, well done!

Plenty of interesting stuff there, it's just a pity about the weather.
There's always next time to look forward to ! :)

It may be "50 shades of grey" but still a very comprehensive mix of aircraft. The up-side is you still enjoyed yourself and probably had the vantage points to yourself to enjoy the peace and quiet. Thanks for showing.

Might have been some carp weather, but there are some nice shots there...

thanks Dan, it's been misty too often lately, yesterday and sunday were the only days it's been clear and I couldn't get there on either day
