Stansted 30-8-2016

Post by andygolfer » Thu Sep 01, 2016 7:15 am

an afternoon / evening visit to Stansted on Tuesday, mainly for the PlusUltra A.340 operating the Cobalt service from / to Cyprus. The Korean global Express was a nice surprise as it wasn't on any of the lists, otherwise it was mainly regulars but in rather nice light as the evening drew in (soon be autumn).

this was the first arrival and the light was quite harsh at that time (around 16.15) totally different to the time we left around 19.00

the Korean touching down (it was using a Korean callsign)...

some regulars..

cropped a bit tight to get the fence out of the pic - one tiny bit remaining I'm afraid

even the Ryanair 737s started to look nice in the evening light..

and a couple of the PlusUltra A.340, we needn't have rushed over for the 4.30ish departure time, it wa sover 2 hours late leaving but at least the harsh light had gone by then

then we had a look northside before going home and got the timing wrong, 2 biz arrivals and one departure while we drove round, missed 2 completely and this was the best I could manage of the other arrival, a rather smart Challenger

Well done for catching the Plus Ultra A340, especially in that lovely light.

the north side is only really good from about 3pm onwards, before that you really need to be out on the approaches to get the light behind you

I'll try to pm you a map

I was struggling a bit as i knew about parking at Belmer road and the mounds but that was it

I did ask a few guys further up from the mound if there was anywhere to go to get the sun behind you but they were doing numbers so didn't know any of the photo spots on the other side, when i spoke to a few people taking pictures from the mound the more interesting stuff like the montenegro the qatar cargo and the sun country had gone out so didn't fancy a move for endless ryanair and easyjet,s

nearly 30 actually and lots of heat haze coming off the runway made the touch down shots a bit awkward until the light went down a bit. I was quite happy with them considering that my gear is strictly mid range compared to yours but my wife has my budget to consider :D

I did sharpen them best I could and pointed out that some were harsh light which made them a bit contrasty (which I thought was more of an issue with them) but thanks for the useful feedback anyway
