Cold & Wet Heathrow Easterly Ops
A few shots from a cold and wet Heathrow - most approach shots from the Thistle Hotel - most roll out / Taxi shots from the Renaissance.
A shot of Newcastle airport as our A319 (G-EUPW) departs runway 25.

it does look very grey and dreary during your visit but you still got some nice shots
were you staying at the renaissance hotel and if so what room type did you book ?, it is an awesome hotel when they are using the 27 end but i always feel you have spent a lot of money for no real gain if they are landing on 09L as a lot of the smaller stuff has rolled out and turned off before they get close enough to you
Never tried the Thistle balcony as the only day i did go there they had a private function on so i could not get in and i went over to the terminal five bank which was a good spot
looking forward to the first 2016 trip to LHR in two weeks time

Re: Cold & Wet Heathrow Easterly Ops
Hi Mach one
Was staying at the Renaissance
Booked what they call the spotters package - not so many business folk around at the weekend so they put you in a club room (top floor with runway view).
I do agree it is a shame when the 09's are in use - but the Thistle viewing deck is pretty good for Landing shots - I guess you were unlucky with the private function.
I have used the T5 drop off area for shots before when 09's in use - it's not bad as the light is from behind you for 09L landings.
Hope the sun & westerly winds are kind to you in a couple of weeks
Regards

Re: Cold & Wet Heathrow Easterly Ops
I try and stay at the renaissance at least twice a year, last year i booked the spotters package in february for a stay in june and two weeks before my stay they e mailed to say all exec rooms were closed for refurb so i could have a standard room on a lower floor which i was not happy about, so a few e mails back and fore and i got upgraded to one of the runway view suites which was very nice
we are staying at the premier inn bath road in two weeks time and when they are landing on 27R you have a fantastic view of the landing aircraft but as it is bath road side it is the wrong side for the light so no stunning pictures
the pictures from the renaissance through the glass are very good do you use any filters when shooting through glass

No filters - only thing I do for through window shots is use a rubber lens hood - this allows you to put the hood up against the window - it blocks out just about all reflections but being rubber still allows you to angle the lens.

Good idea about the rubber lens hood will have to give that one a try, i have tried a polarising filter in the past and that helps but the rubber lens hood sounds perfect

Re: Cold & Wet Heathrow Easterly Ops
Lovely set Nigel despite the dull conditions, lots of variety rather than just landing after landing so thanks for posting them all - and for planning all the different angles.
I've got a rubber lens hood but just realised it's for my 18-55mm but my 18-250 is a different diameter so I ought to get one ready for bologna next m onth

Nice set in challenging conditions.. Particularly like the New Zeland and BA tails shots.
