I thought I'd do things a bit different this month, rather than have separate topics for each of my visits I'l do one for STN for all my visits in February and add posts for each time I visit with an update in the title, it might help those who want to see what I see over the month by having them all in one place.

here goes with 2nd February, this includes the first cargo flight into the airport by CargoLogicAir using B747 G-CLAA

Ryanair B737 EI-DWP had to do an overshoot because an ATC radar issue meant an aircraft on the runway wasn't able to depart and was awaiting instructions, the Ryanair did a circuit and landed a few minutes later

didn't know it was on until I went over there this afternoon and there was a procession of rather exotic biz jets arriving, only went over with a friend to help him try out his new camera for a hour and ended up staying 3 hours instead fortunately I took my camera as well and he had a good session practicing! going through my pics now so watch out for them later

A good start to the month

as I mentioned yesterday evening a planned 1 hour visit yesterday for a bit of photo practice grew into a 3 hour stay due to several visitors bringing delegates for today's Syrian conference in London, I made the most of the visit which included a few government/military aircraft and I've included a few pics of them to give the full flavour of the day....

this Azerbaijan 767 was landing as I arrived,fortunately my camera was set up ready, taken through the wire mesh fence rather than from the top of the mound!

the UPS 757 normally stays parked all day and is un-photographable but it surprised us by departing (to Warsaw) and I finally got some pics of it

i wish I'd known about them, i'd have gone a lot earlier

they didnt show on FR24, maybe I should try a different tracker

Try Plane Finder which shows a lot more especially biz reg.
Also have a look at
http://www.adsbexchange.com then the Global view or click on show tracking planes and move map to UK.A bit fiddly to use but works well once you get it going.

EDIT: I might start a topic on these plotters to see who thinks what is best, I've tried ADS-B today and it certainly has more flights on it.

I visited for a while yesterday afternoon, not a lot happening but the B747-800 was a nice surprise even though it wasn't in a very good location for photos (on the compass base). I saw some nice pics elsewhere of the Jordanian IL.76 sitting there last week and worked out where they were taken but didn't have time to walk round and the sun was wrong side anyway, handy to know though - and I thought I knew all the spots at STN! I ended up going out on the approach to try some sunset shots before going home, here are a few that I took....

Some lovely photos, I too do like the MD11- it is one of my favourite airframes. Had G-CLAA up at DSA earlier this year training before it commenced operations
