London City over the New Year

Post by welshdan1927 » Wed Jan 20, 2016 10:27 am

Hi all, my last outing of 2015 was a few hours at LCY between Christmas and New Year. This meant less movements and no Lufthansa or A318s.

However it was during Storm Frank which meant plenty of lively approaches and departures, and it gave me the opportunity to explore different spots to where I'd normally visit.

As always, great backdrops and busy foregrounds are the order of the day. Enjoy...

Great set of shots, well done and thanks for posting. The ramp area is much expanded since I flew in and out of there from Humberside on a short-lived service from Humberside using Dornier 228's. On the return flight was the only passenger so sat on the floor between/behind the pilots and chatted with them all the way home!

Blimey, many thanks all for the lovely comments!
Perks of the hobby where we get to stand around for hours freezing our unmentionables off, I hope the results were worth it!

Ian W; I'm not jealous at all (would love to fly into LCY!)

Suberb set there, brilliant shot of EI-RJT in the new City scheme!

I must go there at somepoint, looking through those shots there's some great angles there by the looks of it!

I'm looking to do a route into City just for the landing experience in an RJ

These are fab, especially loving the second one and the 4th.

I'm actually flying here in April for the first time. How much of a faff would it be to get shots like this? This isn't a trip for photography or faffing but if I could pack a minimum of gear and not spend all day faffing around I'd be sorely tempted to give it a go.

Hi all, again thanks so much for the comments, obviously doing something right!

For those wanting to know if it's a faff at LCY; I had no problems. I tend to get off the DLR at Royal Albert and head straight to the water's edge, but this time I went down to King George V, crossed the road, walked over the bridge (from which you can get great views anyway as per the last shot) and popped through the fence into the desolate car park. No police, no locals, no nothing, just a nosey fox.

As for flying into LCY, I've not been south (terminal) side but I have seen a few shots from the car parks. Honestly couldn't tell you how friendly it is photography-wise though. Will try it out on my next trip.

The LCY section on this site has a solid guide. I will try and contribute with more detail one day soon!
