China Southern B777 Stansted 27-6-2015

Post by andygolfer » Sat Jun 27, 2015 8:41 am

China Southern started cargo flights into Stansted last Saturday using B777Fs but today was my first opportunity to get over to see one so the sunny weather tempted me to venture over, here are a couple of it's arrival:

(I think I prefer the scheme on the 787 though)

hope you like them C&C welcome

Nice shots Andy, Were you down on the approach Andy? I was up on the mound, shooting into the haze - doh!

Hi Dan, yes I was. Knew it would be into sun although I would have preferred a touchdown pic so decided to go off airport. Need it to be delayed be delayed 8 hours one day for some better ones.

Hope you managed some good ones

Hi Andy,

Yeah, would have been a lot better if it had come in at 18:00 this evening instead of the AM slot... Hopefully one day we'll get a nice delay on one!!

Mine came out OK, but not much to write home about!

Nice catch Andy, could do with just a little coping just to put them mid frame

Thanks Paul,

I was trying to give a bit of space for them to fly into but maybe it hasn't worked. All the photo forums (rather than aviation forums) always say you should do that but not sure if these look as nice as if I centralised them. will have another go later to see what looks better (and what opinions I get).

so here they are, re-cropped and ignoring the 'space to fly into philosophy'- what do you think looks better (and comments not resereved to Paul)

Much better Andy!

I don't frequent general photography sites much, so have not come across the 'space to fly into' idea. It doesn't work for me - it just looks as though you forgot to crop them.

I'm not a fan of the "aircraft within a mm of the edge" crop style that some seem to love, but I think the cropping works well here, especially the first shot, Andy, as it brings the subject up a little in the frame.

Agree, it would be nice to see their 787 scheme on a 777F.

thanks for the comments guys.

I started using the grid on the Canon DPP editing software recently to try to get things central and level and that helps especially for levelling things up.
I'm not a fan of close cropping and try to leave some space all round and having tried both a bit of space in front and more central I prefer the latter as well. Perhaps I just overdid it a bit on those two originally.

Andy,

You've probably seen this already, but today's flight is running late, and is due in to Stansted at around 18:30...

You got your wish for a late arrival!

Now all you need is for the sun to stay out.

Thanks Dan, I hadn't seen today's list so wasn't aware of the delay.

I may go but off to the dentist to have a tooth out shortly so may feel a bit grot. will see how it goes.
