Kemble Airfield 20/01/2015

Post by james143611 » Tue Jan 20, 2015 7:03 pm

Hello all,

Some shot's at Kemble with some more scrappies and some GA stuff too. Shame it was cloudy, something my camera isn't a fan of

As you can see, it started snowing! I scrapped the idea of taking other shot's from the lineup, but the China Eastern 319, Atlas Jet and the Yammal's were there. I was surprised that although the MedView 747 is slowly fading away, the Corsair 747 still looks pretty much untouched, I suppose the day will come when it will be broken apart.

Couldn't see the other Jet2, unsure where that went. The Shanghai 737 was missing too, nor could I see the ex-Swiss RJ100's :???:

Blimey...............been spotting for around 35 years, and haven't been to Kemble for around 20 of those (kids etc etc etc) and obviously been hugely aware of its role as a mega scrap yard, but please please please, someone tell me that "614" is a permanent land mark on the field.

Such a rare bird, and an iconic design

Nice set by the way fella!

Nice to live near Kemble, usually go up each month as theres something new or stuff moves around.

On the Kemble fleet list, the 614 is listed as Preserved thankfully!
Its Lufthansa Tecknik's trainer (is/or was)

Its used by Resource group, ex Lufthansa training for the apprentices to practice 'hand' skills.

I've never seen it there but its probably been in the shed when I've been.

I've only been doing aviation for about two years so I've never seen one before, didn't know how rare it was until my mate said what it was.

Forgot to post the Jet2 pics, will do that when I'm back from work tomorrow.

I believe the Lufthansa training facility used to be at St Athan and moved to Kemble (2011 I think read on this post). The 614 was brought in by road and, I assume, kept in the hangar, as I've never seen it outside. Hope they keep it out a little longer, as I would like a photo.
Wanna buy a secondhand airfield?

Thanks for the feedback on the 614 lads!!

Looks like a trip to Kemble could be required soon?
I think I've managed to see two of these fantastic aircraft in nearly 35 years of spotting, a German Air Force machine and a Cimber Airways machine, both at Manchester
