Compton Abbas - New Year Fly-In +1

Post by Cessna954 » Sat Jan 03, 2015 2:49 pm

First aviation outing of 2015 and a trip down the road to Compton Abbas in Dorset. The annual New Year Day fly-in was a wash out so I was hopeful of some belated visitors on the Friday. Thanks to a fly-out from White Waltham the number of visitors was swelled to a respectable 28 aircraft.

A few highlights below:

A beautiful 1942 vintage Aeronca 0-58 Grasshopper (G-BRHP) visiting from Dunkeswell

Former RAF Slingsby T.61 Venture G-BUJI

Another motor glider in the form of Sportavia RF-5B G-CBPC

A couple of the eight or so West London Aero Club visitors (Piper Arrow G-WWAL)

and Van's RV-7 G-DMBO
Image

HIghlight for me was this 1972 classic Piper Aztec visiting from Sandown IoW (G-AZYU)

Other classic visitors in the form of Stinson Voyager G-BPTA

and Wassmer WA.52 G-EFVS

Thanks for looking and all the best for 2015 to all CA members

Many thasnks for the comments.

Usually I manage to warm up during the drive home from a winter's day out at an airfield, however on Friday I think it took all evening. Was a stiff and chilling breeze (12 knots NNW).

Have a day or so leave rolled over from 2014 so hopefully will be out up to Heathrow or Gatwick within a week or so, weather dependant.
