Positioning to Cardiff-Rhoose today after withdrawal from service was G-BNLG. First flight 10 Feb 1990 and delivered to BA 27 Feb 1990 thereby making it just under 25 years old. In context, if the same longevity were applied to the last of the piston liners, Lockheed Super Connies and similar, they would have been operating in to Heathrow well in the 1980's. So on that note I guess BA can say they got their value out of 'LG.

Here seen departing Heathrow 09R earlier this year.

It was reported on the Gatwick Spotters Google forum yesterday that G-DOCT departed for Victorville as BAW9250 having flown its final revenue services on the 5th of the month. With delivery to BA made on 22nd December 1992 making just under 22 years of service.

What if anything are BA doing to maintain their schedules as these aircraft are retired. I haven't seen any new 787 or 777 deliveries for sometime so that would imply that they either had a surplus of aircraft beforehand or are running short now.

Is it winter schedule cut backs at present with more deliveries in the spring that is allowing them to cope or another cunning plan?

i believe they have at least one more A380 due before long but not sure what else

Andy,

From what I can gleen from the net BA's plans are as follows:

Boeing 737-400 replacement at Gatwick:
13 already retired with the remaining 6 following by end of summer 2015.
Former BMi Airbus A319s G-DBCA-K have moved to LGW to replace the first 11 retired Boeings.
Additional 10 secondhand Airbus A320s with the first having now been delivered.
20 new A320neos from 2018 onwards.

Boeing 767-300 replacement at Heathrow
7 already retired with the remaining 14 following by end of 2016
8 No. Boing 787-8s already delivered, no more planned.
22 Boeing 787-9s from September 2015 onwards.
12 Boeing 787-10s from 2019 onwards.
18 No. A350-1000s for delivery from 2017 onwards.

Boeing 747-400 replacement at Heathrow
To remain in service until 2030!!
8 No. A380s delivered to date plus 2 No. in 2015 and 2 No. in 2016.

In summary, 5 No. Boeing 787-9s, 2 No. A380's and 8 No. secondhand A320s to be deliverd in 2015. It looks as though a large order for the bulk replacement of the Boeing 747-400 fleet and the older Boeing 777-200s remains un-anounced. It will be interesting to see how this pans out next year.

B.747-400s G-BLNW & G-BNLX were retired yesterday (5th November), both positioned to Cardiff yesterday, 'LW as BA9171E and 'LX as BA9172E

source: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/british- ... er-93.html

40 remain in service, G-BNLF was due to be retired this month but that has been extended until February 2016 to cover for G-VIIO which suffered the fire damage at Las Vegas in September

here's G-BNLW about to land at Heathrow on 29th December 2013,

The following posted 27/11/2015 regarding G-BNWT from http://www.thebasource.com/

"British Airways Boeing 767-336ER G-BNWT positioned London Heathrow – Cardiff-Wales as BA9171 this afternoon after arriving as BA102 from Calgary. We believe the aircraft has been withdrawn from service but await 100% confirmation."

I think this would take the longhaul B763s number of active a/c back to 5 (WI,WM,WS,WW,WY,)
