Pretty Good Week at Southend

Post by AeroPics » Sun Aug 25, 2013 7:39 pm

Not quite as exciting as Singapore, but Southend continued to produce some interesting movements... Last week was especially good, for a typically rather quiet time of the year for maintenance movements. The weather wasn't bad (mostly) too!

First, Saturday brought the weekly Volotea flight, which came in the form of Volotea's newest acquisition:

Sunday brought British Airways - an Embraer departing after having diverting in the previous day as it missed the London City lunchtime curfew.

Monday brought a visitor from Kazakhstan, in the form of an Air Astana A320 arriving direct from Aktubinsk for end of lease maintenance early in the morning:

Tuesday brought a test flight of the latest acquisition for Nextjet, an ATP. This was the first flight of this aircraft in over 3 years, since then it had been stored out in the open at SOutrhend, before and extensive programme of maintenance in preparation for delivery! Passenger configured ATPs are now quite a rarity.

Thursday brought the arrival of an Aero Contractors of Nigeria 737 from Bournemouth after having being repainted into the new livery. A photo from a new spot for me: No less than 3 Aero Contractors 737s are currently at Southend!

And Friday brought the departure of another Malmo Aviation RJ100 after maintenance:

And the wonderful Blue Islands ATR42, which had also received maintenance at Southend!

As always - I hope these are of interest!

Some very nice trade. The Volotea B712 is a corker!

Lovely photos these, the ones in the rain are still nice and bright and sharp, and I'm giving another vote for the Volotea!

Any chance you could tell me about a green (at least partially) a320 and a 727 which looked all white? They were there last Wednesday when I went past on the train, amongst others including one of the Nigerian 737s. Would like to cross them off the list if I could! Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Thanks for all your comments, glad you like them. When the movements actually happen at Southend it is really quite good!

DaveSheffield - The green A320 is ex First Nation Airways of Nigeria N997AG and shortly for the chop. Pleased to report your 727 is only the Congo Government's 9Q-CDC - so a rather nice sighting! Hope this helps.

Oh that'll do nicely! Might have to take another trip across to see if I can catch a photo of that. In for maintenance is it, or storage? Any idea how long it'd be in for in either case?

Thanks for your help!

The 727 is a very long term maintenance inmate at Southend - it arrived in December 2010 and hasn't flown since. However it is getting close to flight again after an awful lot of work - perhaps in the next couple of weeks. It performed high power engine runs today - was quite a sight and sound! In it's usual spot outside the hangars, it is not in a position to be properly photographed...

Interesting! So pot luck whether I'd get it or not? If you do hear anything in advance, please, let us know on here! Would be a cracking catch!
