Heathrow 06.08.2013 - Yet More Images Added

Post by flour power » Fri Aug 09, 2013 8:00 pm

Hi all.

While down visiting my parents I took the opportunity to visit RAF Brize Norton for some red-hot heavy fun. Met a couple of very nice German guys over for the week of base-hopping but the RAF must have been having a day off. Nothing for it, then: a quick 60 miles trip to LHR seemed in order.

Here are some of the results. As always, comments and constructive criticism is welcome and I'll post some more if they're of interest.

Wonderful shots Mike, are they through the fence on the Northern Perimeter Road or at a crash-gate there ?

Thanks chaps.

Mike, they were all taken through the fence on my first visit to the north side. I suspect I'll be back!

Lovely shots Mike. Sharp and great lighting, particularly like the THAI 747.

Thanks Paul.

As you can see, it was pretty cloudy with the light going in and out. When it was good; boy, was it good. :thumb:

Thank you John. I really don't like shooting through a fence but it can really put you in closer contact with the action.

Bloody typical, just as this Etihad A340 appeared, a blinking' great cloud swept across the Sun - casting a shadow exactly along the runway!

You can just smell the rubber and tarmac contact.
They couldn't look any better.

They are excellent shots :thumb:

Looks like they are taken from roughly the area around the Renaissance hotel?

Am tempted to try some through the fence shots next time I am down there but at just over 5 foot tall I think that broad metal strip in the fence may get in my way.
Can you shoot through the fence under that strip or do you have to shoot above it?

Hi Bat.

If you have a look at the images on Flickr I've marked the exact location on the map for each image. Convert to 'satellite' and you'll see that there's a building around which the fence has been diverted. Very togger-friendly.

Being 6' 7" I couldn't physically shoot under the metal strip  but the fence material is the same above and below so should be good. I believe that the authorities would be ok with a two-step trestle to get you over the strip but I wouldn't want to risk a full set of steps.

Regards,

Mike

Nice shots there Mike,
I would suggest anybody visiting this spot not to use any sort of ladder at all, a small one step stool seems to be tolerable to some of the authorities, also I would suggest not too many people there at once otherwise it could cause a problem as they dont seem to mind the odd few there as long as you are not hogging the fence, if loads turn up then they will block off that area like they threatened to do a few years ago

Great additions as always Mike.

Yep, make the most of this spot as the 'new' perimeter development will lose this area all together..... :grr:
