Re: 2 TOM Dreams at PIK
I always thought when there was a bit of smoke about, the brakes were being applied.
But we live and learn every day.. ..

Re: 2 TOM Dreams at PIK
nope when an aircraft tyre touches the tarmac at 200mph it burns off some rubber, ive replaced an aircraft wheel after a "brakes on" landing,it looks like the wheel has been cut in half,it just grinds it away. http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=brakes ... B640%3B480
take a look,its a good example...cheers......... .

Re: 2 TOM Dreams at PIK
The puff of smoke is because the wheels aren't rotating at touchdown, they have to instantaneously accelerate from 0 mph to 140(ish) mph in a millisecond. The harder the touchdown then the more smoke is generated due to a larger surface area of rubber hitting the tarmac.
Anyway, that's just my theory, it seems logical to my geriatric braincell.
Wonderful shots Chris, any idea why 'IB has been named "Alfie" ?????

Thanks chaps.
Re: 2 TOM Dreams at PIK
No, you didn't say that - you said an aircraft had touched down at 200 mph with it's brakes on and you had to change the wheels.uppergreen1 wrote:yep I think that's what I said.cheers........... .
