Managed to catch some wing vapor on FlyBe Dash8

Post by Jonay » Wed Oct 14, 2015 8:32 am

T'was a bit soggy a week ago at EGPD Aberdeen/Dyce, but I still went out as I was getting cabin fever. I enjoy being in the rain as long as I'm not getting soaked so I donned my mountaineering waterproofs and headed to the local.

There wasn't any unusual visitors at the time I was there, but I hung around for an hour or two, getting some strange looks from the folks that pulled up to have their lunch in the car whilst viewing through the fence, looking at me up on the mound with my camera thinking "he's mad!"

Anyway, I caught this shot of a BA A320 taking off in a bid to be a bit more arty with my shots...

but then I saw another FlyBe Dash 8 that I hadn't yet seen (I have barely seen any of the new purple liverys - I don't go that much anymore!) and just as it had rotated and got some lift I saw the flickr (pun intended) of the wing vapor and the prop trails though the viewfinder and I was glad to see that I caught it on film.

not the most exciting of shots I know, but I don't think it's very common for a Dash 8 to be seen making clouds, maybe a 747 or 777 but not sure how many people have seen this! if you have, feel free to share below!

Couple of nice shots you have done well with the Dash 8 at 100th of a second, one point on your posting if you select the 1024 on the BCC option on Flickr looks a lot better on the forum

Paul
C&C always welcome

Thanks

Wasn't sure what size to post, some people/forums complain due to low bandwidth/mobile users!

Yep interesting shot of the Dash with the vapour build up, i saw you on the mound that day and thought to myself that's dedication for you ! nice to see some shots
taken in challenging conditions Jonathan, but being Aberdeen we are both used to it i guess. cheers Retro

you have kept the dash eight nice and sharp considering the slow shutter speed you were using, you must have a very steady hand

I have seen some interesting vapour swirls off the props of the dash eight but yours is a bit different from the norm

Thanks for the comments folks, probably my favourite picture I've taken yet, and it's certainly my most popular on Flickr (2100+views).

It's all the days that I go out there taking 100s of pics that just get deleted or forgotten about just to get some quiet time that are practice for shots just like this.
