a dull morning at Heathrow 19-6-14

Post by andygolfer » Sun Jun 22, 2014 5:20 pm

Last Thursday morning I stopped off at Heathrow for 1/2 hour or so ( would have been more but the M25 car park was in long term mode with the M4 overspill open as well) on my way to Ascot for the helicopter bonanza. MainlyI wanted pics of a QANTAS A380 as I didnt have one in my collection apart from an overfly at 14000ft. They were landing on 27R which meant I needed to find somewhere to get on the sunny side although the sun didnt play ball in the end (unlike it did for BAT 21 who posted some very nice pics from Friday and Saturday). I found somewhere reasonable after researching bing maps and google earth so these are a few of my results:

firstly 2 of the QANTAS A380, my main reason for breaking my journey

and a few others that arrived while i was waiting for the QANTAS

finally as i walked back to my car I got this BA 747 nicely framed by the trees:

then it was off to Ascot for the Ladies day helicopters ( http://www.civilianaviation.co.uk/forum ... 69&t=18627 ) then i stopped off again on my way home but the weather was a 'french thank you very much' (murky beaucoup!) so those pics weren't worth going thorough much let alone uploading.

Nice set Andy. I'm not a big fan of 27R arrivals - mainly because its such a long walk from the car!

The QANTAS A380 is top of my 'must get' list. At what time does it come in, please?

27R in the morning is the worst arrival option in my opinion, I found a small park off an estate road out towards Hounslow, the parking was a bit tight but I managed to find a space okay.

The QANTAS flights now route via Dubai and arrive at a far more civilised time than previously hence why I hadnt got a pic of one previously. QF1 arrives at 08.20 and QF9 at 10.05 (scheduled times) - that was the one that I saw on Thursday

Nice shots Andy, especially of the QF A380.
