Brooklands Museum - March 2020

When I checked my photo catalogue it showed that I had not visited the Brooklands Museum since 1998 - 22 years ago! Needless to say the airfield bares very little resemblance to how it was all that time ago and whilst the Mercedes-Benz World and Brooklands Hotel are very impressive, it has been at the expense of having an operational runway. I believe that the last airliner to fly in was the Vanguard G-APEP (there's a great Youtube video of that very much worth watching for the wistful smiles of the pilots inspecting the ruts in the grass from undershooting on their landing!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmakSwlYLs0 ).

Anyway, on with some photos of my visit on Saturday.

Monument to the golden age of motor racing at Brooklands, located adjacent the banked circuit.

Many of us will remember the Alcock & Brown statue from the Central Terminal Area at Heathrow.

There are many period ground handling vehicle at Brooklands, this line up caught my eye.

The Sultan of Oman VC-10 A4O-AB - I recall seeing this on approach to land at Brooklands as I was heading across from the College to Airfield at Farnborough - apparently that was 33 years ago.

British Aerospace BAe Hawk 100 G-HAWK/ZA101 - a pano shot of two images stitched together, which hasn't quite worked as it bulges in the middle.

It's well worth a visit with the refurbished manufacturing hangar very impressive and educational and lots of cars, bikes and buses to also be seen.

An interesting selection of British Airliners, it doesn't seem that long ago that 1-11s were regulars at Birmingham and Viscounts passed over the house at night inbound to Coventry on the mail runs, hard to believe that was around 25years ago now!

very nice Neil, I haven't been for 8 years when I did the Concorde simulator experience which was good fun. It looks to have changed a lot since so I must go back sometime soon.

love the Vanguard video!
thanks for posting them
