Brooklands Museum - March 2020

When I checked my photo catalogue it showed that I had not visited the Brooklands Museum since 1998 - 22 years ago! Needless to say the airfield bares very little resemblance to how it was all that time ago and whilst the Mercedes-Benz World and Brooklands Hotel are very impressive, it has been at the expense of having an operational runway. I believe that the last airliner to fly in was the Vanguard G-APEP (there's a great Youtube video of that very much worth watching for the wistful smiles of the pilots inspecting the ruts in the grass from undershooting on their landing!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmakSwlYLs0 ).
Anyway, on with some photos of my visit on Saturday.

Many of us will remember the Alcock & Brown statue from the Central Terminal Area at Heathrow.

The Sultan of Oman VC-10 A4O-AB - I recall seeing this on approach to land at Brooklands as I was heading across from the College to Airfield at Farnborough - apparently that was 33 years ago.

It's well worth a visit with the refurbished manufacturing hangar very impressive and educational and lots of cars, bikes and buses to also be seen.
