Super Guppy F-BTGV - Bruntingthorpe

Post by SkyMover » Sun Nov 11, 2018 9:46 am

I went to the Lightning photo call at Bruntingthorpe yesterday. The Lightning fast taxi runs took place at the southern end of Bruntingthorpes runway. I was pleased to find that the Super Guppy had been relocated to this spot and was no longer surrounded by the myriad cars that are in storage at the airfield. You can no longer see the Guppy from the rest of the museum exhibits, it being hidden by the rise of the runway and can no longer be seen by museum visitors - l have no idea if that is its permanent home now. While everyone was waiting for the Lightnings to do their thing l took the opportunity to get some photos of the Guppy in what was left of the late afternoon sunlight. It was an unexpected opportunity to be able to get a few photos of it without all the surrounding clutter.

I know it was due to be moved to a new permanent location Chris but not sure if this is the permanent one or a temporary one. I'll try to find out from Gaz the team leader (I know him well as I manage the website for him - note to self, time for an update)

Very nice pics too and nice to see it uncluttered.

I've had an answer Chris -

the plan is for Guppy to move to the pan where the Tristars are currently stored once they depart (or should that be'if they depart' - they should have gone 2 or 3 years ago) so looks like the guppy will be at it's current location for the foreseeable future

Great uncluttered photos in the autumnal light. I hope it doesn't sink down into the grass before being moved to its permanent spot.

Andy,

Thanks for the info - interesting. I'm never sure what to think when l go to Bruntingthorpe. I suppose the owners have found a good way of bringing in revenue but l do find the sea of stored vehicles rather depressing. The Cold War jets collection always looks a bit lost.

Unfortunately, Bruntingthorpe airfield has been sold, taken from

https://www.bruntingthorpe.com/aviation
Important New Information re the Aviation services at Bruntingthorpe
Please note that, following an acquisition of C.Walton Ltd by Cox Automotive, the Aviation business and Cold War Jets Museum at the Bruntingthorpe site are now closed and will not re-open.
It is recognised that this may be concerning news to some aviation enthusiasts. Cox Automotive is an automotive services business who do not work within the aerospace sector. One of the previous owners of C.Walton Ltd, Mr David Walton, is currently investigating the construction of new buildings adjacent to the LPG ‘Q Shed’ to house some of the collection and safeguard their future on land excluded from the Cox Automotive lease. News of any progress on this front will be released by Mr Walton as and when available.
Subject to the COVID-19 situation at the time, it remains the intention of Cox Automotive to hold the planned Cold War Jets Fast Taxi Day in August. Further information on this will be released much closer to the date.
Please note that due to the COVID-19 situation there is no access to the site currently.
Hopefully, most of the exhibits can be saved and either moved to other museums or moved to a new location on site.
