Balkan IL-18's were occasional visitors to Cork during the 1980's on ship crew change duties. This is one of my earliest photographs taken not long after I got my first camera in late 1985. Also one of my favourite shots.

Denis,
always nice to see old Russian types.
Was it always Balkans, or did you see Tarom, Malev, LOT etc ?
Pete.

Re: Balkan IL-18 lining up for departure from Cork
Yes as I remember it was always Balkan IL-18's at Cork. IRS Aero sent in an IL-18 in 2000 but that was after I had left Cork to come to live in the UK. Shannon had LOT IL-18 charters for crew changes and also a series of Murmansk Airlines Tu-154s. Sadly nothing exotic like that kicking around now..........LondonEye wrote:Denis,

Re: Balkan IL-18 lining up for departure from Cork
Hi guys,
I have come to this thread rather late, but i was very interested to read about the visits of Balkan IL-18s to Cork in the 1980s...
It just so happens, that I saw a Balkan IL-18 Westbound over South-Wales (on Green1) on 10th November 1980 with a callsign of BALKAN 8529, and have never been able to tie up its destination nor identity.
Maybe it was one of your Cork flights..?
Please can anyone provide further information about the flight I saw?
Many thanks in advance,
skyline15
