Manchester August 1970
Manchester August 1970
These are some of the earliest pictures taken with my first SLR camera- a Praktica Nova 1B- made in East Germany, if I remember rightly, and not a bad little camera for its time.
My logbook says these were taken on the saturday of the August bank holiday weekend - slightly different to current volumes of traffic.
Hope they are of interest.
Pete.

Re: Manchester August 1970
Some great memories there, I can't believe how quiet it looks though !
Re: Manchester August 1970
Cheers Mike - yes it was like that sometimes, just waiting for something/anything to land! It's hard to believe it when you look at the size of the place now.

Re: Manchester August 1970
What lovely memories.
I like the Comet, still semi BEA colours, not the gold of Channel Airways. Would be nice to see one in their colours though.
I seem to remember seeing a lot of Channel Airways Viscounts at Southend Airport, when they went bust.
Wished I could have photographed them, but never had a camera then.
Then about a year later, my first SLR was a Praktica bought in Dixons, using a hand held lightmeter.
Thanks
Pete.

Re: Manchester August 1970
Cheers Pete- I think these are the only Channel Airways pics I ever got. I got my camera from Dixons as well- I seem to remember a lot of people getting stuff from them- there wasn't the choice of retailers then that there is now! Regards - Pete

Super shots..i remember on weekends late 1970s an IL-18 of LOT Airlines (i was told) used to come over the village we lived at North of Doncaster inbound to Manchester Airport..not that high either and a treat to watch.Regards Tim

Lovely collection, many happy memories of Ringway in the late sixties and early seventies. Sadly never had a camera so enjoyed your set.
Re: Manchester August 1970

Sadly never went to MAN back then
Thanks for posting and mentioning Praktica ...forgot all about them, my first SLR was the Praktica LTL , great little camera ..until it got to hot then the light meter indicator would stick

Re: Manchester August 1970
More cracking reminders of times past. Nothing wrong with Prakticas. I had an MTL3 for years - even survived rolling my Escort Mk.2 at 55mph on black ice with just a small corner of the hot-shoe broken away. Same could not be said of the car unfortunately. Damage wise I was much nearer the camera on the scale with "just" whiplash (no injury cliam for me - just £10 worse off paid to the NHS!).
Anyway, many thanks for the post - wonderful
