Short Sandringham - Tower Bridge

Post by LondonEye » Thu Jul 21, 2016 7:25 pm

Some scanned slides, taken in August 1982, when Short S25 Sandringham G-BJHS visited Port of London for a few days.
I seem to remember that about that same time, it also flew at an airshow, possibly Biggin Hill.
Pete.

Thanks for putting me out of my misery!
I was having a 'discussion' regarding seeing a "Sunderland" flying at one of my many airshows over the years, to be informed there were none flyng then, now if I was doing a passing visit to Biggin or somewhere like that at that time period it would have been an easy mistake to make, as I wouldn't have had a programme to tell me what I was seeing!
Now to find out who owned/owns it and where they flew back then.
Thanks for sharing.

That frame is the one in Southampton's museum. Started life as a Sunderland Mk.III.

Thanks for all the comments and interest. Folks certainly know their facts.
G-BJHS was a converted Sunderland. It's history was -
ML814 RAF - NZ4108 R New Zealand AF - VH-BRF - N158J - G-BJHS
In 1989 it had reg EI-BYI reserved but not taken up. Subsequently, it did go to N814ML Kermit Weeks.

VP-LVE was on loan to Aer Arran. Another interesting link about its visit -

And now at Solent Museum as VH-BRC.

It also did fly past at Heathrow whilst returning to the Solent, went straight down 27l then banked to the south.
