CP Air 747 climbing out of Kai Tak after starting from the harbour end, skimming the roofs of Kowloon City and turning hard to port to climb out past the hills. c1976.

Love it!!! A real blast seeing those colours. A common sight at EGCC throughout the early '80's, sadly missed

To those of you too young to remember, and for us old'uns to reminisce , have a look at the many clips on You Tube of the landings at this historic airport. from memory there's a Korean 747 landing that is unbelievable!

Kai Tak was notorious for it's approach and landings and if anything went wrong and the single runway was closed the diversion was, I think, about 1000 miles. Air Nauru caused a few problems with a 737 in their early days, burst tyres on landing I think. Made for a very quiet few hours at the airport. It was hairy in light aircraft because we were flying among the big boys with all the turbulance that entailed. Good fun though.
