Biz Jets from the 70s and 80s
Biz Jets from the 70s and 80s
Here are a selection of some older Biz Jets taken at Luton in the 70s and 80s.
In October 1977 G2 N227G was present. G2's were fairly common in those days. The later versions in the Gulfstream range had yet to appear. This one had c/n 76.
G2a by wokinghampaul, on Flickr
A smaller Biz Jet was the Sabre. These were not too often seen (unless they were military (e.g. USAF)). This one is seen on the taxiway out for departure in October 1979. Taken from the viewing area before EasyJet took over that part of the airport. It was always a popular place to watch the aircraft.
N408CSa by wokinghampaul, on Flickr
An early example of the HS125, and owned by Rolls Royce. January 1981.
G-AWYEa by wokinghampaul, on Flickr
Another 125, this time Saudi registered. This is a 600B. Note the Monarch B720, Katale Britannia and Air Bridge Merchantman in the background. Seen October 1980.
HZ-AMMa by wokinghampaul, on Flickr
One-Elevens were quite common at Luton with the airlines. But then there would be Exec versions! Here are two US registered examples.
N500CS in March 1979.
N500CSa by wokinghampaul, on Flickr
TAG's N5034 in October 1980.
N5034a by wokinghampaul, on Flickr
Another G2, this time N888SW in November 1979.
N888SWa by wokinghampaul, on Flickr
A favourite of mine, and I know a lot of other people, was the Jetstar. They were not that common, and getting rarer, but here are two Saudi examples.
HZ-SH2 in April 1980.
HZ-SH2a by wokinghampaul, on Flickr
HZ-SH4 in July 1980.
HZ-SH4a by wokinghampaul, on Flickr
Learjet's were around. This example, N3HB, was a 35A seen in June 1980.
N3HBa by wokinghampaul, on Flickr
A much rarer type was the Jet Commander, although this particular one was often seen. This time it was in October 1980.
N187Ga by wokinghampaul, on Flickr
And now some of the bigger examples of a Biz Jet.
VR-BOX an early B737 seen in March 1981.
VR-BOXa by wokinghampaul, on Flickr
B727's would turn up. A40-CF was a nice one seen in February 1981 and used by the Oman Police.
A40-CFa by wokinghampaul, on Flickr
VR-BGW seen in April 1981 seems to show traces of ex Eastern Airlines(?).
VR-BGWa by wokinghampaul, on Flickr
And finally, "short" DC-9 N241TC seen in February 1981.
N241TCa by wokinghampaul, on Flickr
Hope they're of interest.

Some great shots reflecting a golden era in aircraft.
I love the sabre-liner and jet star.
Also it's nice to see the place and how it was then....

Re: Biz Jets from the 70s and 80s
What a superb set, and some real fond memories in the both sets.
The young pups of today just don't know what they have missed.
Thanks for sharing

Re: Biz Jets from the 70s and 80s
What a great set of shots, really enjoyed the Jetstar, Sabreliner and the old Gulfstream 2, all sadly missed.
