Yes, another superb set of how things were....... brilliant

Re: Heathrow slide scans from 1972 & 1973
Have just been looking at some of the stuff in the background - British Eagle Britannias, a Cambrian Viscount, an Iberia Caravelle and a BEA Comet 4B and an Ambassador (probably BKS) in #3.
Wonderful stuff.

Wonderful stuff.

Photo 5, the Swissair is I believe not a DC-8 but a Convair 990 Coronado
Re: Heathrow slide scans from 1972 & 1973
those stretch DC-8s were crazy, sleek like A340s
Re: Heathrow slide scans from 1972 & 1973
strewth, I thought the crashed DC-8 was a TU-114!

yes, you're right, thanks for pointing it out and I've corrected the original text (I'd also put the runway heading with the Trident in the background as 28R and it should have been 10R.robert hemming wrote:Photo 5, the Swissair is I believe not a DC-8 but a Convair 990 Coronado

That Alitalia DC8 brings back memories - my father was PR for them and had all the press photos, big glossy 10x8 b&w. Wish I had them now.
For Heathrow fans which may have missed my posts there's a bunch of stuff, 5 vols, which I posted a while back. Here's the link to Vol 1:
