SPOTM calendar for 2018
I've finished putting together the SPOTM calendar for 2018 and my fellow moderators had a look and thought it was okay so here is the order of play. The January topic was originally planned for December 2017 but we decided to do a monarch competition this month (November 2017) and slip the originals back 1 month each so here's the list:
January Touch down or lift off – main gear on the runway and nosewheel in the air (was to have been December 2017's theme)
February single engined piper aircraft
March British registered airliners
April Lear Jets
May anything registered on the African continent (assume Africa ends at the Suez canal and Red Sea)
June ATR series aircraft
July veteran & vintage - for the competition assume first flown before the start of w.w.2
August De Havilland aircraft (not including DHC aircraft)
September a displaying aircraft from a 2018 airshow
October lets celebrate Oktoberfest with anything German registered
November famous landmarks – an aircraft with a well known man made landmark in the photo - changed to 'Taken inside an aircraft' any photo taken inside or looking out of an aircraft but if the latter there must be an aircraft in it.
December Ryanair
hope you like the list and please post any questions here so I can answer them in good time.
start digging out those old photos!

Thanks to Andy and the team for putting together this varied calendar - looks fun. Must try to dig a few more out - probably just to make up the numbers though!

Great list, it's getting printed and posting on the office wall to give me something to aim for...or help make up the numbers

Re: SPOTM calendar for 2018
Excellent list. Some of those will be a challenge for me to find something suitable, and de Havilland will be a challenge for me to pick one!
Re: SPOTM calendar for 2018
Great selection, I can do 7 at least - possibly 8 if Ican somehow decipher the registration on some Lufthansa photos to ensure they are German registered otherwise it's a poor shot of a twin at GTW...

Re: SPOTM calendar for 2018
I have had a discussion with the other mods re the subject for November (famous landmarks – an aircraft with a well known man made landmark in the photo) and we decided it may be a bit restrictive on opportunities and thus the entry numbers would be noticeably reduced (shame because I had a great shot of helicopters passing in front of the Brooklyn Bridge!) so we decided to change it to something that may offer greater opportunities and the opportunity to be a bit creative.
I made a suggestion which the other mods all agreed fitted those criteria and we are going to title the subject 'Taken inside an aircraft' any photo taken inside or looking out of an aircraft but if the latter there must be an aircraft in it and the subject must be a civilian registered aircraft.
I've got all sorts that fall into the category so I'm sure it should be easy for most people. for example even if you're not airborne, museum exhibits offer all sorts of opportunities so it's not restrictive to those who rarely fly. AND you've got 5 months to think of something original!
get thinking (and snapping!)

Re: SPOTM calendar for 2018
So the photo can be taken from a military aircraft looking at a civilian one?

Re: SPOTM calendar for 2018
yes that's correct.
But if it's just the interior of a military aircraft that will not be acceptable.

Re: SPOTM calendar for 2018
Thanks, I've got an interesting, but not vote-worthy, shot to make up the numbers so that's November taken care of. Got something for October too but nothing for September as I haven't been to any shows and December's topic of Ryanair is too modern for meandygolfer wrote: ↑Fri Aug 24, 2018 8:54 pmyes that's correct.
